Netgear Expands The Orbi Lineup With First 5G Tri

Nov 27, 2023Nov 27, 2023

The new 5G version of the Netgear Orbing Trim-Band Mesh system is here, promising blanket coverage ... [+] with WiFi 6 using 5G data networks.

With the rollout of 5G cellular networks now in full swing, we can expect to see more 5G routers coming on to the market for people who either want an alternative to a fixed-line broadband service or those who need a backup to their regular internet using the high speeds available from a 5G data network.

Netgear has just announced a brand-new 5G version of its Orbi Tri-band WiFi 6 mesh system. Orbi uses the latest WiFi 6 wireless networking standard and now Netgear has launched an Orbi system that has a slot for a 5G SIM enabling users to connect to the Internet over 5G or to use it as a backup for their fixed-line broadband or cable.

Currently, about 42 million Americans have no access to a high-speed wired Internet service. Many homes and home-based businesses are in areas that have limited or unreliable access to DSL or satellite Internet services. For those people, the only way to get online is to use a cell phone as a wireless hotspot which they can then share to all their wireless devices.

These days, many households have dozens of smart devices, computers, tablets and other equipment that require a network with a more robust performance than a smartphone hotspot can provide. And average LTE or 4G Internet speeds can be quite slow, especially during peak hours when access to the Internet can be restricted, stifling productivity.

The Orbi Tri-band 5G WiFi 6 Mesh system accepts SIM cards for 5G networks.

However, now that 5G coverage is more widely available from mobile carriers, ultra-high-speed Internet is starting to roll out to areas where cable may never have arrived. Netgear's 5G tri-band system is an industry-first and combines superfast 5G mobile connectivity with the company's award-winning Orbi WiFi 6 mesh system that blankets a home or office with high-speed WiFi networking.

Accessing 5G data networks via a Tri-Band mesh network can enable families to enjoy super-fast Internet speeds with ultra-low latency and virtually no downtime. The Orbi NBK752 mesh system can work as an always-on broadband service, using 5G as the primary Internet connection or it can work as a "failover" backup service for a traditional wired Internet service.

The Orbi NBK752 is incredible flexibility and an ideal solution for second or vacation homes where a user might not want to pay for a year-round broadband service. The system is also a great solution for temporary working sites such as a construction manager's office or somewhere where wired Internet services aren't required all year-round or on a long-term basis.

The mesh system can blanket a home of up to 5,000 sq. ft. with a WiFi 6 wireless system. Whether it's sited in a brick townhouse or a sprawling rural retreat, the system can cover a large area straight out of the box. For extra-large properties, additional Orbi satellites can be added to fill wireless dead spots.

The Orbi Mesh system uses 5G data networks to connect to high-speed Internet and can cover ups to ... [+] 5,000 Sq Ft with WiFi 6 wireless networking.

Tri-band WiFi uses a dedicated wireless connection between the main router and satellite units for the highest possible speeds, no matter how many devices are logged on at the same time. Accessing 5G networks is easy because the system works with most major mobile service providers, including T-Mobile and AT&T.

According to David Henry, President & GM of Connected Home Products and Services at Netgear: "In a time when having reliable home WiFi is critical to not only work and learning, but to just about everything else we do, consumers can access the best Internet connection with this latest addition to our Orbi portfolio."

The Orbi 5G WiFi 6 Mesh System comes with a free 30-day trial of the newly enhanced Netgear Armor service to protect a home network from online threats. Unlike traditional antivirus software, Negear's Armor is baked into the router and creates a protective bubble for all the devices on the network, including Smart TVs, security cameras, game consoles, smart speakers, streaming players, tablets, computers, smartphones and other gadgets.

Pricing & Availability; The Netgear Orbi 5G WiFi 6 Mesh System (NBK752) is available as a two-pack consisting of the router and one satellite. It's priced at $1,099.99 and can be ordered on netgear.com starting today.
